NIVARAN is an initiative of Hon’ble Minister for Railways to bring the benefits of technology directly to aid of railway employees by creating an online system for resolving their work related grievances.

The appellation of being the single biggest civilian employer in the country comes with the huge responsibility for Indian Railways; the responsibility of looking after different needs of almost ten million serving and former railway employees and their family members, spread in every possible part of the vast country.

Indian Railways has been meeting this challenge with a credible degree of success supported by a multi layered enterprise wide mechanism to deal with staff matters. However the surge of technological advances has been altering the ecosystem, giving rise to an aspiration level amongst the employees and their dependents, which is not possible to meet without technological tools. The creation of NIVARAN at the behest of Hon’ble Minister for Railways, as the online platform to address grievances of serving and retired railway employees has to be seen against this backdrop.

NIVARAN shall take forward Indian Railways’ endeavor in redressing staff grievances, arising because of gap between expectations of employees and speed of delivery by a manual system. NIVARAN aims to bring all authorities concerned with addressing staff matters on a common platform so that avoidable delays are cut down substantially. Some 200 offices and over 3000 officers from Junior scale to Higher Administrative grade levels are proposed to be configured to NIVARAN, making it one of most comprehensive and transparent mechanisms of its kind.

The Application is the result of collaborative efforts of Establishment/ERP and Computerisation and Information System directorates of Ministry of Railways, CRIS and software developer HP.
